Cisco Academy Instructor Professional Development Updates

All Professional Development materials can be accessed through CLI’s Interactive Course Guides link on Academy Connection.

  • Pacing guides are now available for all CCNA Discovery and CCNA Exploration courses. This resource is designed to maximize student learning by providing guidance to instructors on time management and difficulty level for each chapter within each course. The guides include a suggested percentage of time to be spent on each chapter, based on both a two-month and four-month teaching cycle, as well as a recommended minimum percentage of time, within each chapter, that should be spent on lab activities.

  • Instructor materials, including Interactive Course Guides (ICGs), Instructor Reference Guides (IRGs), and PowerPoints (PPTs), are also available for all CCNA Discovery and CCNA Exploration courses, now including updated materials for the new version 4.1 release of CCNA Discovery: Working at a Small-to-Medium Business or ISP. Academy instructors can use these materials to better prepare to teach the new curricula through reviewing numerous teaching ideas, critical concepts, and discussion topics. View ICG Demo

  • A NetSpace Instructor Guide is now available to give an overview of how instructors can use the student-instructor web portal in the classroom. NetSpace allows registered users to create personal profiles, connect with other members of the Cisco Networking Academy, and offers an assortment of interactive activities and contests for both instructors and students to reinforce their knowledge and test their skills.

  • Academy Orientation materials, including the Orientation Guide and Orientation VoDs, are also now available. Instructors can sign up and take the course through Academy Connection; however, the materials are also available any time for reference by clicking the Interactive Course Guide icon from Academy Connection.

  • The Hybrid Blended Distance Learning (HBDL) pilot phase is underway. HBDL is a project that CLI has undertaken to develop training materials to educate new instructors on how to teach the new CCNA Discovery and CCNA Exploration curricula. The pilot includes materials supporting CCNA Discovery: Networking for Home and Small Businesses and CCNA Exploration: Network Fundamentals. Training centers holding new instructor training courses from May 2008 – July 2008 are serving as the pilot sites. (During the pilot phase, materials will only be available on a separate pilot website.)
